Self-pimp: Retro Gamer 82 and Leather Goddesses of Phobos
Retro Gamer won a GMA last night (‘Best Games Magazine’), which is rather nice. Since it’s the only games magazine I write for, I’m going to take all the credit.
Meanwhile, if you’re a fan of Infocom, Steve Meretzky, leather goddesses, Phobos, or Leather Goddesses of Phobos, buying the latest issue of the mag (complete with flying Mario advent calendar cover—I kid you not) would be a good idea, since it includes The Making of… Leather Goddesses of Phobos (by yours truly).
I have to say it… the Leather Goddesses piece is the latest in a long line of great articles for Retro Gamer by Craig. You do deserve a lot of credit for tracking people down and writing funny, interesting, in-depth articles on how so many classic games were created.
Now, stand aside and let some of us other freelancers a bit of elbow room now and then 🙂
Can’t wait to actually get my hands on the latest issue. Should be here in a couple or so days. And congrats for getting such an excellent text adventure (sorry, piece of interactive fiction I meant) into a Mario infested issue of RG. Love the idea of such a contrast.
@Merman: Thanks for the kind words—glad you enjoyed it. I’m not sure when it’s going to run, but I have another pretty interesting one coming in the not-too-distant where the interviewee took bloody ages to track down, and, as far as I can tell, has just one online ‘hook’ (which I discovered).
@gnome: It is pretty funny, especially given how up in arms everyone on the RG forum was about ‘those’ ads. Now you have 16 or so pages of wholesome Mario, followed by four pages of Leather Goddesses, including some less-than-wholesome grabs from the PC-based sequel. (But, hey, I don’t choose the grabs they go with—that’s down to the art guy and the editors!)
Some time ago, when someone bitched about some PG-13 (12) rated ads I remember going through what was then the latest issue and pointing out everything there was that was 16+ or 18 rated in the mag (and there’s a lot of course).
Sadly it didn’t shut them up.
Wow that was a long time ago, might even be the Live days.
That was probably way more recent. People still moan about those ads on the forum (even though they don’t exist); hell, people still moan that Retro Gamer doesn’t have a ‘free’ (read: £1) and ‘exciting’ (read: pointless) covermount (read: coaster). The mind boggles sometimes. But mostly it gets depressed and asks for gin.
Oh, but things could really be much (much) more depressing….
